A new chairman takes over

I recently completed my final engagements as my time as Chairman of Wychavon District Council has come to an end.

Firstly, I accompanied Wychavon District Council leader Cllr Linda Robinson, to the swearing in of the new Police Commissioner John Campion at Hindlip Hall where I met his very proud mum, sisters and god children – even Police Commissioners have families!

Beautiful building with lovely views.  Couldn’t quite see to the County Ground where I had attended a meeting on 11 May of the Canal & River Trust with refreshments being enjoyed overlooking what seemed to be a cricket pitch of soft green carpet.

The penultimate engagement of my chairman’s year was opening the kiosk in Evesham Abbey Park on 16 May where I sampled delicious organic ice cream, followed by the unveiling of Egwin the Carp designed and made by Pershore blacksmith Steve Cooper. Bothwere funded by the use of 106 money paid by developers.

My last engagement was attending the mayor making of Cllr Roy Murphy at Droitwich together with the conferring of the status of Hon Alderman on previous councillor Mike Barratt.

A good end to my year.

Overall I raised £2,000 for my chosen charities Worcestershire Wildlife Trust and Dementia Care which I am very proud of.

It has been a pleasure to represent Wychavon this last year, especially as I was the first ever Pershore councillor to become chairman, although hopefully not the last. It also opened my eyes to the community spirit that is alive and well making this district one of the most sought after places to live.

I am sure that the new chairman, Frances Smith, will have an interesting and enjoyable year and I thank her for her support as my Vice Chairman.
