Proud of Wychavon’s volunteers

I recently had the honour of presenting the Wychavon Queen’s Silver Jubilee Awards to those nominated by their town and parish councils for going the extra mile for their community.

The winner was Viv Oddy from Abbots Morton who has and still is offering help to wherever it is needed in her village and in fact, had brought some of them with her.

Second was George Ward from Hartlebury who has been instrumental in not only raising money for the village hall but also in saving Hartlebury Castle together with the Hurd Library and George is now a founder trustee of the Hartlebury Castle Preservation Trust who now own the castle and library.

He did say that he was prepared to sell his body to raise funds but no-one had taken him up on this yet.

Joint third was South Worcester Lifeguards and Spencer and Hazel Mitchell.

The SWLG are a volunteer group offering  training to all ages in water rescue and activities and also offer their services in times of national emergency having spent most of their Christmas holidays helping flood victims in Cumbria.

The Mitchells from Bretforton were nominated by Bretforton Parish Council for their contributions to village life for many years not only to the church, Bretforton Silver Band, parish council and local charities but to many other roles.

A fantastic evening giving me the opportunity to offer thanks to those deserving folk who do so much without expecting gratitude.
