Why I’m supporting my chosen charities

Every year the Chairman gets to choose charities to support during their 12 months in the role.

I chose to support Dementia UK and Worcestershire Wildlife Trust, which are two causes close to my heart.

I chose Dementia UK as they support Admiral Nurses who can be a life saver for families dealing with dementia and are relatively unknown.

My mother suffered from dementia so I know first hand of the difficulties encountered trying to cope with something that is not unknown, but whose symptoms vary from person to person.

At the time I knew nothing of the Admiral Nurses but in hindsight could have done with some of their help and expertise not only with wading through paperwork but with future planning.

You can find out more about their work on their website www.dementiauk.org/

On a more cheerful note, I also chose Worcestershire Wildlife Trust because I consider it to be part of a national organisation that is still relatively unknown and which  does a wonderful job with many volunteers beavering away to raise funds to keep our green open spaces alive and healthy.

Their assistance with providing not only expert advice but practical help with local sites including  Pershore’s  own Avon Meadows has been invaluable and I know I can always ask a member when I can’t identify a bug, flower or bird.
